We partnered with Alto to help Meta launch Batman: Arkham Shadow—repositioning Meta Quest from hardware to cultural experience.

Meta Reality Labs needed a breakthrough moment for Quest 3 and 3S—one that shifted perception beyond specs. To launch their most ambitious title yet, Meta brought in Alto and STUDIO HERRSTRÖM. The first Arkham game in first-person VR was a major leap—and a major challenge. Traditional gamers had long resisted VR. The work needed to change that.

We helped reframe the brief: this wasn’t about tech, it was about identity. A chance to become Batman. That insight became the foundation for the campaign.

STUDIO HERRSTRÖM worked closely with the creative teams to build visual concepts rooted in this idea. From film and statics to animated posters and digital rollouts, the system guided every touchpoint. We led art direction for key visuals, built the campaign’s design system, and helped shape the creative realized by photographer Sophy Holland.

The centerpiece film, Become the Knight, directed by Emmy Award–winning Johan Renck and scored by The Prodigy, turned shadow into narrative device. Shot entirely in silhouette, the film merged live-action choreography with Gotham-inspired landscapes—placing gamers at the story’s center.

From Reddit to Discord, the rollout met fans where they were and invited participation. Frame-by-frame analyses, shadow tributes, and speculation made the campaign feel like a cultural drop.

Meta Quest 3 became Amazon’s best-selling console of 2024—even with a fall release. Gamers started to see themselves not in front of the screen, but inside the mask. The project received recognition from Cannes Lions, The One Show, The Webby Awards and D&AD.
